Album: The Anniversary Cruise Our Parents decided to celebrate their Golden Anniversary by taking the family on a Cruise.
I had prepared a toast but it didn't seem appropriate to give it in a room with about 1200 other diners... so here it is:
I spent a few days trying to think of something insightful to say about our parents. I eventually realized that the one thing that is most obvious to anyone who knows them is the one thing that I am most proud of.
My parents are “there”. I mean that they are ALWAYS “there”, no matter the time or circumstance, they are “there”. They have been “there” for each other for more than 50 years now, they have certainly been there for Carole and me for our entire lives, and they have always been “there” for friends, strangers, or anyone who needs them.
What if you’re not there (geographically)? Well, let my Dad get a 6 pack of Jolt Cola, a package of Pecan Sandies (cookies) and he and Mom can be just about anywhere in the lower 48 to be “there” for you in less time than it would take an experienced over-the-road trucker. My parents’ treks up and down the eastern seaboard just to check on friends and relatives have been a topic of discussion in our family for years and I know that my father is legendary at their local Ford dealer for racking up the mileage as well.
So to my parents I say:
Happy 50th Anniversary, We love you very much, and thanks for always being “there”.
